We are absolutely delighted to reveal the Workington Town 2020 Away shirt.
The shirt is available to pre-order now and has been chosen to mark our 75th year anniversary by paying homage to the first playing shirt colours the club ever wore.
Where it all began!
In 1944 we began our journey. Workington Town RLFC was formed at a meeting held in the Royal Oak Hotel, Workington in December 1944.
Many of Workington Town's board came from our neighbours Workington Reds AFC's board and the teams initially ground shared at Borough Park. It was very fitting to grace our original home again in 2019.
We were the first side from Cumberland to enter the professional rugby league set up and we played our first home game, wearing green and red hoops, at Borough Park which resulted in a crowd of 4,100 as Town came out 27-5 victors over Broughton Rangers on Saturday 25th August, 1945.
The rest - as they say - is history. When the legendary Gus Risman was appointed as player/coach in 1946, we began our journey to the higher echelons of the game. Within six years we had won the Challenge Cup, beating Featherstone Rovers 18-10 in front of over 72,000 at Wembley Stadium.
We are delighted to bring back a part of this great club's history with this shirt and we hope you wear these colours with pride.
